Cash—A check or credit card gift is the simplest type of charitable gift.
Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds—Many gifts of appreciated stocks, bonds and mutual funds result in a charitable deduction for the full market value of the donated asset, even if you bought it for far less, and minimize capital gains taxes. When you make a gift of appreciated stock to Saint Benedict Abbey—everybody wins. Your gains are put to good use. Your gift of stock is reinvested in the Abbey, for you, your family, and future generations to enjoy. Your gift qualifies for a tax deduction based on the full market value of your stock; you avoid the capital gains tax that would otherwise arise from the sale of this stock.
Life Insurance—You may transfer ownership to Saint Benedict Abbey and receive a tax deduction for the policy’s cash value. Gifts to Saint Benedict Abbey to cover premiums due may also qualify for a deduction.
Closely Held Stocks—Donating the closely held stock of your business to the Abbey offers you a charitable deduction for the appraised fair market value and potential saving of capital gains tax. We will work closely with you and your advisors to determine the most advantageous way to handle the contribution.
Real Estate—We can help you turn a home, a business, or land into a charitable gift. We can accept the gift outright or you can set up a trust that will convert it into a gift that also provides you with income. The value of your real estate may exceed that of any other asset you own. You can use it to fulfill your charitable interests and receive financial and tax benefits. You identify real estate property that you would like to give; an appraisal will help you establish its estimated market value. We assess the real estate for compliance with our acceptance policies and gather appropriate documentation. Your gift qualifies for a tax deduction based on its full market value; you avoid the capital gains tax that would otherwise arise from the sale of the property. We work with you in handling all the administrative details.
We thank you for your past support and continued dedication to Saint Benedict Abbey. We invite you to pray with us daily.
